How GPZ Cabling Started — And Why We Do Things Differently
In 2006 I started my career with another telecommunications contractor. I began on the warehouse floor and worked my way up — field technician, lead technician, then into corporate roles that eventually led to serving as Executive Assistant to the CEO. Those years taught me every side of the business, from the physical work in the field to the decisions made behind the scenes.
In October 2021, during the COVID pandemic, I was laid off. That weekend I spent time thinking hard about what came next. By the end of it, the decision was clear: I was going to start my own company.
That company became GPZ Cabling. The name isn’t random. GPZ stands for Grant, Preston, and Zachary — my three sons. Building this business was about creating something lasting for them, a future I could pass down, and a company built on values I believe in.
Our beginnings were humble. The first “van” we used to transport materials, ladders, and tools wasn’t even ours — it was a rented U-Haul truck. No fancy fleet. Just a determination to get the work done and build something real from the ground up.
I also wanted to run things differently from the company I came from. There, it was common to spray-paint parts to save a few dollars, sell used materials as new, and charge clients heavily for change orders on items that were simply missed on the plans. Those shortcuts may have protected short-term costs, but they damaged trust and long-term relationships.
At GPZ, we take a different approach. We are 100% focused on customer service, doing the job correctly the first time, delivering clean professional installs, and offering extremely competitive pricing. No shortcuts. No surprises. Just solid work done right.
Today we are a family-oriented company with six full-time technicians and a small, dedicated office staff. We’re proud that our Google reviews are all 5 stars — a direct result of the high-quality work and the way we treat every client.
